Using IPL+RF to Significantly Reduce the Appearance of Dilated Blood Vessels and Reds on the Skin

When it comes to the treatments that we perform at Clarus Dermatology, IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) consistently delivers results for our patients. When we look at the before and after images, the visible improvements after just a single treatment are quite apparent.

In the Post-Operation image here, taken less than a month after the treatment, you can see a significant reduction in the reds (including quite a few dilated blood vessels) on the patient’s skin when compared to the Pre-Operation image.

The L in IPL stands for Light and refers to an incredibly high-powered pulsing broadband light. Imagine a really bright flashlamp.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Neil Shah performed the treatment on the patient with the ELOS device, which uses IPL in tandem with bipolar RF (radio frequency) energy to create electro-optical synergy, where the acronym ELOS comes from.

The IPL changes the conductivity of the targets in the skin – the melanin and hemoglobin. The RF pulse is then fired from the device. This radio frequency energy is absorbed by the warmed targets, meaning the melanin and hemoglobin get an extra dose of destructive energy.

This allows the ELOS to have a much deeper penetration of the skin, leading to the improved treatment results that you see. We cannot stress how important it is to see a board-certified dermatologist for this treatment. The light and heat energy of the device can result in burns if it’s not used properly or responsibly.
